Where we Started

When owner, Scott McAuley got out of the Navy in 1992, he went to work for the Jensen Motor boat company in Seattle and learned finished carpentry working on wood boats. After a while, he started working for a general contractor doing remodels and worked his way through the trades. In the mid 90s, Scott moved to Louisiana to become a commercial diver, working with a local carpenter building houses to supplement his income while establishing his diving career. In 1998, he built a small wood shop and continued building cabinetry and furniture when he wasn't offshore. By 2002, Scott and his family moved to Bellingham where he continued his diving career while also helping a friend start a general contracting business in Ferndale in 2005, focusing on home remodels and repairs.

Where we are now

In 2013, with his children growing older, Scott ended his career in the dive industry to be more present as a father. Having always been involved as an assistant wrestling coach, scout leader, and baseball coach, he wanted to dedicate more time to his family, spending a couple of years fishing, camping, and hunting together. In 2015, when a realtor friend asked Scott to help with tenant improvements on commercial properties, he rediscovered his passion for construction. During a family trip from Winthrop, Scott shared with his wife how much he was enjoying being back in the construction industry and his desire to start a business that would make his family proud and would care for customers the way he would want to be treated. That conversation marked the beginning of Alderwood Builders. What started in 2016 as just Scott and a truckload of tools has grown into a team of professionals who share his core values of honesty, integrity, reliability, and accountability.
